  • Teamsters Local 391 Honors MLK Day with 2-Minute Film
    Updated On: Jan 19, 2015
A freeze frame of the Teamsters Local 391 produced tribute film in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Teamsters Local 391 honors the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. each and everyday we come to work, both in our advocacy for a strong union in our communities and in the workplace where we stand up to discrimination and harassment.

To celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Teamsters Local 391 created this short film featuring the speech Dr. King gave in Memphis, Tennessee to striking sanitation workers on April 3, 1968, the night before the iconic minister was assassinated. Dr. King's last speech on earth was of "the dignity of labor".

“Dr. King was not only a leader for civil rights in this country, but he tied civil rights to labor rights, because no man or woman is truly free unless they have a good paying job and the right to collectively bargain,” said Mike McGaha, President of Teamsters Local 391. "This Union stands for equality, civil rights, and collective action - everything Dr. King preached."

McGaha asked for a moment of silence at the Local 391 membership meeting on Saturday, January 17 for the slain civil rights leader before showing this film.
