  • Teamsters to UPS: We Demand A Fair Contract
    Updated On: Mar 14, 2013
The Local 391 members (shown above)gather for a recent parking lot meeting at the Greesboro hub.

Teamster members are mobilized across the U.S. and North Carolina on Thursday, February 21 to show UPS management that we will fight for a fair contract.

Local 391 members and other Teamsters across the nation wore stickers and met in company parking lots to demonstrate our unity and commitment.

The Teamsters UPS National Negotiating Committee is working hard to win a good contract for the members.

One of the top issues in the contract talks so far has been the company's attempt to attack its employees health insurance.

Recently, management proposed that all of its hourly employees should pay $90 per week for health insurance coverage - with additional increases of 10% each year.

    We are saying "No!"

This proposal would cost full-timers $2.25 an hour in the first year, and part-timers $5.14 an hour.

By the end of the contract, UPS employees would be paying nearly $7,000 a year just to get the company's health coverage.

UPS is taking the position that most workers in the U.S. pay part of their employer's health insurance premium. While this is true, most Americans do not work for one of the wealthiest companies in the world.

UPS made $4,38 billion in net profits last year, which surpasses their previous record year of 2007.

Teamster employees made this the company's reality.

Teamsters are telling management: "Record profits means a fair contract!"
